General Assistance
Assistance in Times of Struggle
The Buena Vista County General Assistance Program, administered through the Buena Vista Public Health Department, provides limited financial help to individuals and families who are in need and have no other means of support. Assistance is offered in accordance with county policies and is intended to promote a decent and healthful standard of living for eligible residents.

General Assistance is designed to serve as a last resort—support is only provided when applicants have exhausted all other potential sources of aid, including personal resources, support from relatives and other public or private programs. Eligibility is determined at the time of application once all required documentation has been submitted and reviewed.
Qualified applicants may receive up to $200 in assistance once within a rolling 12-
month period. All applicants must be residents of Buena Vista County to qualify.
This program reflects Buena Vista County’s commitment to supporting its most
vulnerable residents while ensuring the responsible and fair use of public funds.
