Safe Sharps
Safe Sharps Disposal for a Healthier Community
Using sharps like needles and syringes safely is important to protect you, your family and our community. Buena Vista County Public Health and Home Care offers a safe, affordable way to dispose of used sharps and prevent injury or contamination.

How the Program Works
-
You can pick up an approved sharps container from our Public Health office for a small fee ($5 for 1 gallon, $10 for 2 gallons).
-
Only sharps placed in containers purchased from our agency will be accepted for disposal. This ensures safe handling by our trained staff.
-
When your sharps container is full, simply return it to our office for disposal at no extra cost.
-
We provide clear instructions with each container on how to close it properly to keep everyone safe.
-
For clients already enrolled in our programs, we offer home pick-up and delivery of sharps containers.
-
To protect public safety, we cannot accept sharps in unapproved containers.
-
We maintain records of who has picked up containers to ensure proper tracking and safety.
